Customer Demo Video
Here is a link to an unsolicited customer video. They tried Zap-It! to remove chalk from some walls they were repainting and were so impressed they sent it along.
Coverage
When used full strength for heavy chalk/oxidation removal in preparation for refinishing, 1 gallon is generally enough to remove heavy chalk on up to 10–12 8' x 8' doors. Your actual usage may vary depending on how you apply the product.
Note: When used to remove chalk for refinishing, the product is used full strength with no dilution. Using Zap-It full strength on heavily oxidized / chalking surfaces may require repainting depending on how many layers of paint have been oxidized. Chalk or oxidized paint is essentially 'dead-paint' with the binder broken down resulting in the powdery coating. Zap-It strips off this oxidized paint. Use with caution if clear finish is being considered since repainting may be required if enough of the existing paint has been oxidized that cleaning it up leaves too thin a coat or even exposes the metal. Test on one door if in doubt.
Dilution

Tools
- Garden sprayer or other pump sprayer
- Very soft “RV” or auto cleaning brush on a 4 ft extension pole (deck or stiff bristle brushes are not effective in removing chalk)
- Extra Fine or non-abrasive synthetic steel wool pads (aka “Scotch Brite” pads) or microfiber pads (especially for clear coat prep)
- Medium grit synthetic steel wool pads – may remove paint, use only when refinishing with paint or pigmented coatings
- Power washer or garden hose with a high-quality nozzle for rinsing
Cleaning in Preparation for Repainting with Chem-Bake or Door Restore
Brush off all loose dirt, dust and debris. DOOR MUST BE COMPLETELY DRY! With a dry surface, liberally apply diluted cleaner (per dilution guide), keeping the surface wet while scrubbing with a soft RV or car brush.
Spray water as needed during scrubbing. Use a pad at the top, edges, and areas the brush can’t reach. Rinse thoroughly before cleaner dries on the surface to avoid streaking. Re-clean if needed.
After drying, inspect for any remaining chalk. Spot clean with a microfiber pad and rinse. DO NOT use deck or utility brushes. Softer, full brushes are more effective when used with Zap-It Chalk & Grime Buster.
