When installing a cylinder latch with a backplate, insert the cylinder lock before tightening the backplate. This prevents misalignment, which can block part of the opening and create the illusion of a defective latch. The bolt holes allow a small amount of shift until tightened, and securing the backplate with the lock in place ensures proper alignment.
